Unity does not shy away from controversy
By Thomas Paul Schirrmacher
On September 30, 2023, Pope Francis hosted an ecumenical prayer vigil in advance of the synod of Roman Catholic bishops that would begin on October 4. He invited church leaders from various denominations to join him in prayer. Billy Wilson of the Pentecostal World Fellowship, Elijah Brown of the World Baptist Alliance, and I prayed together with 17 other global Christian leaders from non-Catholic churches for the future of the world, the future of the church of Jesus Christ, and the upcoming synod of the Catholic Church. Distinguished guests, I appreciate this opportunity to address an urgent issue – the ongoing stigmatization and discrimination against Scientologists in France and Germany. For over 40 years, authorities in these countries have portrayed Scientology as a threat to society without evidence. They accuse Scientologists broadly of brainwashing, manipulation and undermining the state. This type of inflammatory rhetoric casts an entire faith as dangerous subversives. Yet in all this time, there has not been a single court case proving any Scientology church engaged in illegal acts or posed a threat. In fact, individual Scientologists have won over 250 court cases against

By Lahcen Hammouch
The UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Roza Otunbayeva has emphasized the need for a revised approach in engaging with the Taliban.
